England-Thims & Miller, Inc. (ETM) recently received a National Recognition Award at the 2024 Engineering Excellence Awards presented by the American Council of Engineering Companies in Washington, D.C. This award was presented to Flagler County, ETM, Kisinger Campo & Associates, Corp (KCA) and Masci Construction, Inc. for the Graham Swamp Trail and Pedestrian Bridge over SR 100 project in Palm Coast, Florida.

“We are incredibly honored for our client and team members to receive the national award for this transformative project in our community,” said Tyler Mathews, President of ETM. “As a Northeast Florida based firm, we have firsthand understanding of the positive impact this project will have on the lives of those living in the region.”

Valued at $12 million, the Graham Swamp Trail and Pedestrian Bridge over SR 100 has successfully transformed conservation lands into a recreational space benefiting both the local community and visitors to the region. A value engineering and cost savings initiative utilized in this project was the use of PermaTrak for the elevated walkways. PermaTrak, a durable, maintenance-free commercial boardwalk system, reduced costs and helped minimize the impact of the project through the wetlands. In addition to the walkway, the standout feature of the pedestrian bridge is its unique a-frame safety enclosure, designed by KCA as an ode to the historic Flagler Beach Pier A-frame design, which not only enhances the bridge’s aesthetic appeal but also ensures the safety of all its visitors.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to work with Flagler County on such a dynamic project with a fantastic group of partners,” said Buckley Williams, ETM Executive Vice President of Public Infrastructure. “Together, we were able to create something beautiful for our community to enjoy for generations to come.”

The Graham Swamp Trail and Pedestrian Bridge over SR 100 project also received the American Public Works Association Florida Chapter 2024 Project of the Year Award and the ACEC Florida Engineering 2024 Excellence Grand Award, both announced earlier this year.
